KAFALA | ENDING THE SYSTEM
KAFALA – ENDING THE KAFALA SYSTEM
This campaign was nothing short of unconventional.
It all began when an agency approached us with a powerful idea to address the rising issue of racism against domestic workers in Lebanon, especially during the lockdown period when this violence was on the rise.
CHALLENGING THE SYSTEM
The goal was clear: create a film that would challenge the Kafala system, a legal framework that had long defined the relationship between migrant workers and their employers.
What made this project stand out was that there was no client involved and there was no budget allocated. However, the agency’s creatives believed in the timing and potential impact of this idea, and it resonated deeply with our team.
COLLABORATING FOR CHANGE
Driven by our shared commitment to addressing this pressing issue, we wholeheartedly embraced the project on a pro bono basis. Together, we assembled a dedicated team of like-minded individuals who believed in the idea’s power to effect change. It was a collaborative effort fueled by passion and a shared mission.
A POWERFUL RESULT
The result was a powerful film that not only shed light on the injustices faced by domestic workers but also challenged the status quo of the Kafala system. The impact was profound, as the project found a home with the Anti Racism Movement (ARM), an organization committed to combating racism in Lebanon.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
This campaign was a testament to the ability of creativity and storytelling to drive meaningful change, even in the absence of a traditional client or budget. It stood as a powerful reminder that sometimes, the most impactful projects are born from a shared belief in a cause and a determination to make a difference.
